Neela Jaal is the print we’d point a first-time buyer to. The jaal — literally “net” — is a four-petal lattice carved into a single teak block and pressed edge to edge across the length of cloth, so the pattern reads as a continuous grid rather than a repeated tile.
It’s printed in a deep, slightly warm indigo that’s mixed by hand in small batches and doesn’t shift undertone the way some synthetic navy dyes do after a few washes. The base cloth is a 144 thread-count cotton percale, woven light enough for a warm night and substantial enough that the print doesn’t bleed through to the reverse.
Like every Sanganeri print in this collection, no two lengths are pressed identically — the block is realigned by eye for each repeat, so small variations in spacing are part of the cloth, not a defect.
How do I care for a hand block printed bedsheet?
Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle with a mild detergent, and wash it separately for the first two washes. Dry in the shade — the hand-mixed dyes settle after the first wash and keep their depth far longer out of direct sun.
